Indian Collaboration on Guns N’ Roses Classic Will Leave You Wanting More
There’s an old adage that says, “Music is a powerful force that can instantly change your mood.” That’s certainly the case with a collaboration between two of India’s music virtuosos.
Baiju Dharmajan and Girish Pradhan have teamed up for a lovely rendition of the Guns N’ Roses classic, ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine,’ giving the song a mellow spin fused with elements of Carnatic music. Aptly titled, “Sweet Indian Child O’ Mine,” Pradhan’s rockstar voice balances out the light tune of Dharmajan’s guitar, creating a rare harmony of soft, acoustic sound and raspy vocals.
The Indian Express mentioned that the finished project went viral because of its music video, which now has almost 250,000 views on YouTube, not to mention the countless views, likes and shares on social media channels. Check out the video below.

The two virtuosos
Baiju Dharmajan, also called ‘God of Small Strings’ by his loyal fans, has been in the professional music scene since he was 15 years old according to Team Rock. Starting out with the violin at a young age, he eventually shifted to the guitar. Trained in both classical and contemporary music, he rose to prominence as the lead guitarist of Motherjane. His mastery of Carnatic music emanates through his works, and this latest collaborative project has been injected with this style, blending subtly with the signature sound of Slash’s riffs.
Girish Pradhan is known as the energetic frontman of Girish and The Chronicles (GATC), which were formed in 2009. Although they’re a relatively young group, the band’s powerful music and lyrics as well as electrifying live performances led by Pradhan saw them rise to stardom in a matter of years. GATC has been on tour nationwide and abroad for over 5 years now, and Pradhan’s stint with Dharmajan is a welcome break for the former.
The GNR influence
Guns N’ Roses (GNR) are big in India and have been a huge influence on many of the country’s bands and artists. Their debut album ‘Appetite for Destruction’, which contains the iconic song ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’, propelled the band to worldwide fame. The track has been covered by numerous artists, and Dharmajan and Pradhan have now been added to the list.
GNR’s superstar status paved way for a Hall of Fame induction; however, lead singer Axl Rose declined the honour. Nevertheless, GNR is celebrated in other works and mediums including cover and tribute videos, all sorts of merchandise, and video games. For instance, Guitar Hero II included ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ as a playable track; while the creators of slot games at the digital portal Slingo incorporated tracks like ‘Paradise City’ and ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ into the Guns N’ Roses Video Slots title. Apart from the band’s songs being used in digital works, the GNR logo and members are also frequently seen on apparel and fan tattoos.
But after years of dominating the rock scene, GNR experienced turmoil and members parted ways including Axl and Slash. The band entered a state of hiatus, and when they returned ushered in a series of changes to their line up. It didn’t last long though, and fans were thrilled to learn about GNR’s reunion which culminated in the ongoing Not in This Lifetime tour. This marks the first time Axl Rose and Slash have played together in more than two decades. Although the tour did not include India, die-hard fans seized the opportunity in neighboring countries such as the UAE to see and hear their idols play live performances again. And much to their delight, the UAE-based band Point of View opened the show for GNR.
