Kirti Kulhari, heroine of JAL, in Bengali fashion
“Do in Rome as the Romans do”. It seems from her appearance in Bengali fashion during the press conference of her upcoming Bollywood movie JAL (water) with Purab Kohli in Kolkata that Kirti Kulhari is much familiar with this maxim. Yes, she appeared as a Bengali girl to promote her film (to be released on 4th April) at Pipal Tree Hotel, New Town, Kolkata.
To click with the target Bengali audience, Kirti Kulhari, the heroine of JAL, decked herself in a white cotton sari with red border and a yellow khadi silk blouse. The border of the sari is embellished with silver embroidery. She flaunted a red bindi on her forehead. Her appearance as a Bengali girl was so perfect that she seemed to have a tryst with traditional Bengali fashion.
It is Rituparno Ghosh who internationalized the traditional fashion of Bengali women even beyond the bounds of Bollywood by dressing his leading ladies (Bollywood actresses) including Aishwarya Rai and Preity Zinta in the typically traditional attires of Bengal, in his movies Chokher Bali and The Last Lear respectively.
Kirti successfully stroked the chord of Bengali tradition and culture while introducing her upcoming movie JAL to Kolkattans.
