Tollywood is all set to make adventure movies
Tollywood the Bengali film industry has come a long way, holding the hands of modern-age bold directors – Rituparno Ghosh, Srijit Mukherjee and Agnidev Chatterjee, to feature sex, bloodshed and bedroom affairs uninhibitedly on the silver screen. Following Rituparno’s Chitrangada the Crowning Wish, a bold statement on gay relationship; Agnidev’s Charulata 2011, a bolder adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s Nostonir; Srijit’s 22 se Srabon, a gory thriller, Tollywood is going to embark on an adventure.
Kamaleshwar Mukherjee’s upcoming celluloid adaptation of Chander Pahar by Bibhutibhushan Bandopandhyay is the talk of Tollywood, these days. He is in talk with Shree Venkatesh Films to produce this upcoming Bangle movie. Chander Pahar is a widely read adventure story full of thrills, set in the deep forests of Africa before the First World War. The director’s lens is about to explore and portray the breathtaking wonders of Africa.
Parambrata Chatterjee who shot to the Bollywood limelight with Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahani starring Vidya Balan has chances to be roped in for the lead role, Shankar the protagonist in the story. It is in the buzz that Dev, the romantic hero of Bangla movie in Tollywood, is also on the director’s mind. Tollywood has other Bangla adventure movies in the offing than Chander Pahar. Sandip Ray is busy shooting Jekhane Bhooter Bhoy. Mishor Rahasya, a cinematic adaptation of one of the adventure stories in Sunil Gangopadhyay’s Kakababu Series, is being directed by Srijit Mukherjee. Prasenjeet Chatterjee has been ropes in for the lead role in this upcoming adventure Bangal movie.
